WARRIOR DOWN PROGRAM

This past month the Four Nations Warrior Down program and Sacred Web Recovery Coalition has went through some obstacles. Actually, we have been going through many obstacles since we started the Warrior Down program. We have struggled with getting funds to help us with the expenses of the program. Now, we have decided to scale back our office to only a meeting room. For myself, I am dealing with much anger and frustration over the Program. This past year I have went to make many presentation about the Warrior Down program and how it helps those Brothers and Sisters who struggle with their addictions and staying out of jail and trouble. At all of the presentations there was praise and support for the program and our success. We were told that if we need any help to let those that we presented the program know, which we did. Yet we still have not seen much support! For myself, it reminds me of the past broken promises that we as Native People have heard many times before. I've spent many days and nights praying about what is happening with us. I am beginning to see and to understand that it is up to us who are in the program and in Recovery to decide on whether we want to continue this journey.

Warrior Down is a grassroots movement started by individuals who came from prison, treatment centers, mental health facilities and those in recovery to help them with their journeys. After thinking about this, I began to realize that our struggles were due to my lack of planning. I got swept up in the movement and didn't plan well for the growth. So, now as we scale back, I believe that we will become stronger as Warriors. It is up to us in Recovery to make the changes necessary to stay sober and clean so we can help our families and the communities we live in. So, as we continue this journey it will be a better journey!

Aho,
Tommy Stiffarm
